Annual shutdown of ECML for a few weekends and the promise of sun, at least 10 engineers trains in the possession and a class 60 amongst them was too much to resist a very early Sunday morning start. Saw a lot, but not a lot in any reasonable photo location. For the record the class 60 was 60022 which was hidden in a cutting.

On way back from photographing in Lincolnshire I got wind of two class 60's working through Yorkshire, so a couple of diversions to catch them on 1st July 2009. A month later and it was a similar style dash to catch 60040 in the last of the evening light at Moat Hill LC, Ings road, Doncaster

Scunthorpe Blockade - The Wrawby Jnct area

With the Scunthorpe - Doncaster blockade in place until September, it was time to spend two days taking shots on the three diversionary routes. Although the weather was very hot, the sun didn't always play ball and in not knowing the area, much time was spent looking for locations. However, I generally found the best area was around Wrawby Jnct, where foot crossings and paths running around a small pond (between Brigg and Lincoln line) were the best spots assuming the sun was in the right spot.

Scunthorpe blockade - The Brigg line diversions

With the Scunthorpe - Doncaster blockade in place until September, it was time to spend two trips attempting to get sunny shots on the three diversionary routes. Not knowing the area, much time was spent looking at locations where sun was in right spot. These are some from the Brigg line from the visits in early July and mid August.

Heavyhaul, pipes and 57007 at Carmuirs

An attempt to get a new location for the recently introduced Longannet bound Freightliner heavyhaul trains. Unfortunately, it ran so late that the sun had come around just too much, but added bonus of 57007 on an 0Z66 move to Carlisle just behind it!
A couple of weeks later it was back to the same spot, but slightly earlier to ensure the sun wasn't too far around and to get the pipes off to Raiths Farm (Dyce), as part of trials to replace Laurencekirk with this more modern facility
